Advanced Illustrator Lesson 6

This is my children's book spread. I took inspiration from Henry Darger as well as from an art installation of a small child in a spacey suit and hat crying. There was an accompanying installation from the same artist, but with several children holding hands and smiling.

I also used the sentiment about losing your way from Dot and the Kangaroo, an old 80s Australian children's cartoon.

When I was not getting the texture I wanted, I downloaded free illustrator watercolor brushes and started using them. The brushes were very thick and instead of fighting it, I went with it and started trying to work within this constraint.

Advanced Illustrator Lesson 5

I have been obsessed over tag clouds lately since a client requested it and so I found some tag cloud websites which allow you to input an url in order to output a tag cloud. I used the wired mag url and the following cloud emerged. I then hunted for a top part of the a WIRED magazine cover that would work with the tag cloud. I struggled a bit with the border as I was just copying the reference so instead I went with a bold orange-y yellow to pop it to life.
